Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to suggest you about the improvement in the reception hall which is highlighted by most of the visitors.
Yesterday, after a parents meeting, I got multiple calls regarding poor condition of reception area which include the infrastructure, ambience, entrance welcome, refreshment. Parents mentioned that they were highly disappointed toward the arrangments as compare to the fees of the daycare. Moreover, many guardians were expecting high-standard which was not fulfill. Reception area is an ouital part of the daycare. It leads first impression on the customers arrival. Hence, it has to be well organised mainly the interior and warm welcome.
I would like to suggest some idea which can improve the quality of the reception hall. The furniture should be replaced with updated one and assistant director should be hire to guide parents throughout the meeting and on casual day. Moreover, food arrangement should be provided for long meeting to avoid hunger.
I hope you would take my suggestions into your consideration and act accordingly.
Yours sincerely,
Arpan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when mentioning the complaints, you list several issues like 'infrastructure' and 'ambience' without providing specific details or examples of what exactly was wrong. To reach a higher band, you should expand on these points with more descriptive language to provide a clearer picture for the reader. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Hence' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the complaints and the importance of the reception area could be smoother. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing, such as 'some idea' (should be plural) and 'which was not fulfill' (grammatical error affecting cohesion). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used more naturally would help elevate this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'infrastructure', 'ambience', and 'disappointed'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'ouital part' (likely meant 'vital'), 'assistant director should be hire' (should be 'hired'), and 'on casual day' (should be 'on a typical day'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'suggest you about the improvement' (should be 'suggest improvements'), 'as compare to' (should be 'compared to'), and 'which was not fulfill' (should be 'which was not fulfilled'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms will significantly improve your writing quality.
