Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter in response to your asked suggestion. first of all I am glad that you have asked for some impactful suggestions. I would like to share some of my best suggestion to improve our reception area.
One and foremost importantly, visitors have been complaining about the reception area, said that our reception area has no camera. should attached the camera to eye on every corner of company. another complaint have been made by visitors is that reception area should be clean and professionally organized. receptionist should wear a formal attire as their uniform to maintain discipline.
The reception area is the one of the very important part of the company, we can say it is a heart of the organization. every visitors first come to the reception desk to inquire about any kind of information they want. so reception should be fully organized and maintained by the company.
We could improve our reception area by attaching two cameras on the reception desk as noticing the visitor's complaints so we can keep an eye on very corner of company and keep updated with the workers. also aware of reception area should be fully cleaned and make a strict rule for workers to wear formal dress only in company.
I really liked to give my opinions to enhance our reception area's shine by improving these things. would love to answer if you have any other questions or doubts related this topic.
Looking forward to it
Yours faithfully,
Princy K.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: describing complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks professional depth. For instance, the suggestion to 'attach cameras' is repeated twice without clear justification for how this addresses the specific complaints mentioned. While the tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, the ideas could be more clearly articulated to show a better understanding of professional office standards. The response covers the requirements, but the lack of clarity in the suggestions limits the effectiveness of the communication.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'One and foremost importantly' and 'another complaint have been made' are awkward and disrupt the flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing (e.g., 'these things') is vague. While the overall progression is clear enough to understand the writer's intent, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of cohesive devices prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There are several instances of unnatural word choices, such as 'impactful suggestions' and 'enhance our reception area's shine'. Additionally, there are errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'attaching two cameras' (installing would be more appropriate) and 'aware of reception area should be fully cleaned'. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but the frequent errors in word choice and the limited use of professional terminology restrict the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('another complaint have been made'), missing articles ('is the one of the very important part'), and awkward phrasing ('should attached the camera'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction indicates a lack of control over complex structures.
