Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing in response to the recent complaints regarding the condition and appearance of the reception area. I would like to suggest several improvements that could make this space more welcoming and functional for both visitors and employees.
Frist of the all, several visitors have complained that the reception area looks rather old-fashioned and uninviting. In particular, the furniture is worn out, the seating area is too small, and there is insufficient space for visitors to wait comfortably. some people have also mentioned that the reception desk is often unattended, which can cause unnecessary delays. In addition, the lack of clear signs makes it difficult for first-time visitors to find the appropriate department.
The reception area is extremely important because it is the first point to contact the clients, business partners and other visitors. As a result, its appearance can create a lasting impression of the company.A clear, modern and well-organised reception area would demonstrate that our company is professional, effiecent and considerate towards its visitors.
I would recommend replacing the outdated furniture with comfortable chairs and a modern reception desk. It would also be beneficial to install clear directional signs and provide a small information board explaining where different departments are located. Furthermore, ensuring the receptionist is avaliable throughout working hours would reduce waiting times.
I hope you will consider these suggestions. I believe that thses relatively simple changes would significantly improve visitor's experience.
Yours faithfully,
Hani Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have fully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly described the complaints regarding the furniture and staffing, explained the importance of the reception area as a 'first point of contact,' and provided actionable suggestions for improvement. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and your ideas are well-developed and relevant throughout the response. The letter maintains a consistent professional focus, and all parts of the prompt are covered in sufficient detail to meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a polite closing. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'In particular,' 'As a result,' and 'Furthermore,' which help guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between the complaints and the proposed solutions is clearly established. The structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal business context, such as 'functional,' 'outdated,' 'considerate,' and 'unnecessary delays.' While there are a few minor spelling errors (e.g., 'Frist,' 'effiecent,' 'avaliable'), these do not impede communication or cause confusion. You successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to office management. To reach a higher band, ensure that you proofread for small slips in spelling, as these minor inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary from being considered fully sophisticated and error-free.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically accurate. There are a few minor errors, such as 'first point to contact' (should be 'first point of contact') and 'thses' (spelling error), as well as a missing space after a period. However, these are non-systematic slips that do not affect the clarity of your message. Your control over complex structures is generally good, and the majority of your writing is error-free, which is consistent with a high level of grammatical competence.
