Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing regarding the suggestion you requested to improve on the several complaints we have been receiving about the reception area.
In the recent few weeks, we have faced significant number of raising in complaints about the staff members. The most frequent complaint was the sitting arrangements was not sutibale for accompaying 20-30 vistors at a given time. Another complain was that there is not enough water station installed for vistors.
As first impression of a company is noted through its reception area, it is very vital for our companies reputation to act responsibly on these occurring issues. Reception area should be the highlight of our company.
Installing adequate water station and having proper sitting arrangements is necessary for vistors as they are really important part of our company. I would recommend the comapny to purchase enough furniture for people to sit comfortably. Furthermore, installing few more water coolers so people do not face any problems regarding basic human needs.
Yours faithfully,
Mavi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the complaints, the explanation of why the area is important could be more detailed to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' requirement of higher bands. The response is clear and the purpose is evident throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5-7.0 level of task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Another complaint', which help the flow of the text. However, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed, and the transition between the importance of the reception and the specific suggestions could be smoother. Some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. Overall, the information is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical, which is consistent with the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'significant', 'reputation', and 'adequate'. However, there are several spelling errors ('sutibale', 'vistors', 'comapny') and some awkward collocations like 'raising in complaints'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision and careful proofreading. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure accurate spelling of common business-related terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the sitting arrangements was not sutibale' (subject-verb agreement) and 'there is not enough water station' (pluralization). Additionally, 'the first impression... is noted' is slightly unnatural. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain minor errors. The errors rarely impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and plural forms will significantly improve your accuracy.
