Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
I am writing to give you some suggestions to improve our company's reception area.
First and foremost reason is qualification of the receptionist. Because as you know dear manager, we are getting major feedback for our receptionist is not active, proficient as well as experienced in the required communicational field, which is mainly focused point to improve our company's credit by selecting the perfect receptionist for our company. Although, the environment should be well managed as well as peacefully so every visitors should feel fresh and welcoming one.
There are several important reasons to be focused on our reception area: welcoming nature - every visitor could feel welcoming, clean environment - people feel energetic and fresh, experienced receptionist - visitor can solve every single doubts as well as get easy information and access to our company and so on.
I could suggest that we can hire a cleaner, who can keep clean our reception area regularly, a peon, who serves welcome drinks and sneaks to every visitors and a experienced receptionist, who can guide and provide smooth service to every visitors. These aspects could improve the value of our reception area and reduce the complaints of it.
I hope you could consider my suggestions to improve the company's reception area.
Your regards,
Smit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the explanation of why the area is important overlaps significantly with the suggestions for improvement. To reach a higher band, ensure that each section provides distinct, well-supported points rather than restating similar concepts. The structure is clear, and the purpose of the letter is evident from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'First and foremost' and 'Although', to link ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the list-like structure in the second paragraph. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, the phrase 'complaints of it' at the end is slightly unnatural. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations. For example, 'communicational field' is not standard English, and 'sneaks' is likely a misspelling of 'snacks'. Phrases like 'solve every single doubts' contain grammatical errors in collocation. While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, the lack of precision occasionally hinders the natural flow of the text. Focusing on learning common collocations and ensuring word forms are used correctly will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include article usage ('an experienced receptionist'), subject-verb agreement, and awkward phrasing, such as 'the environment should be well managed as well as peacefully'. Some sentences are run-on or lack necessary prepositions, which makes the writing feel slightly unpolished. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the response. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will lead to significant improvement.
