Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt set by the examiner. You adequately described the complaints regarding the lack of decoration and the poor hospitality of workers, explained why the reception area is important for business deals and creating a positive vibe, and suggested specific improvements such as redecorating the walls and ceiling and replacing the staff with properly trained servers. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. While some ideas like the reception's impact on business could be slightly more expanded, all bullet points are clearly addressed, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 to 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall progression and logical organisation. It follows standard letter-form conventions with an appropriate opening ('Dear Sir,') and a conventional sign-off. Paragraphing is utilised effectively to separate the introduction, the discussion of the complaints and importance, and the specific suggestions in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices are generally used appropriately, such as 'During this year' and 'For further information'. However, referencing and transitions are at times a bit mechanical, as seen with repeated phrases like 'many complaints', which prevents the cohesion from feeling fully natural or fluent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows you to communicate your message clearly. You attempted some less common vocabulary items and collocations, such as 'positive vibe', 'hospitality', and 'business deals'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as writing 'less decoration' instead of 'lack of decoration' and using 'severs' instead of 'servers'. Repetition of common words like 'complaints' also limits your lexical score. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning without impeding the reader, these recurring word-choice and spelling slips keep the response within the Band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable attempt at structuring your sentences. However, there are several noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. For instance, the opening sentence contains a clear subject-verb agreement error ('I hope this letter will finds you'), and there are awkward infinitives such as 'help in to get' and 'helps in to get'. Furthermore, articles are occasionally misused or missing, such as 'company's complaint box' and 'regarding reception area'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency means that error-free sentences are not in the majority, pointing firmly to a Band 6 level.
