Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing this letter regarding the reception area that require few changes to reduce the complaints from visitors.

I would like to inform you that recently our company got a number of negative reviews with regard to inadequate sitting arrangement and lack of of employee at reception area. Individuals usually have to stand for a longer time to conversation with front stuff because there is only person at the moment. As a result, they get frustrated due to not getting space for sitting.

I belive that this issue need to be taken seriously because it is the area where organisation first impression reflects.People who came from longer distance they like to relax for few minutes at reception area and have a water.

I would like to recommend few measures that may help you to resolve this problem such as recuriting a new staff and improve the sitting area by increasing a number of chairs.

Thank you for your attention. I believe that my suggestion will helps you to make few amendements.

Yours sincerely,

Ramandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully describe the complaints regarding the inadequate sitting arrangements and the lack of reception staff, explain the importance of the reception area as the company's first impression, and offer practical suggestions such as recruiting new staff and increasing the number of chairs. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and basic. For instance, explaining why visitors come from a longer distance could have been linked more smoothly to their need for comfort. Despite these minor limitations, all aspects of the task are addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening, body paragraphs addressing the prompts, and a formal sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the complaints, the importance of the area, and the recommendations. Cohesive devices are present, though some feel mechanical or repetitive, such as using 'I would like to' multiple times. Referencing is generally clear, though minor linking issues exist, such as in the sentence 'Individuals usually have to stand for a longer time to conversation with front stuff because there is only person at the moment.' Overall arrangement is coherent, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'inadequate' and 'amendments', but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text. Examples include 'require' instead of 'requires', 'staff' spelled as 'stuff', 'belive' instead of 'believe', 'organisation' missing an apostrophe for possession, and 'recuriting' instead of 'recruiting'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict your score. This performance aligns with the Band 5.5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I belive that this issue need to be taken seriously because it is the area where organisation first impression reflects.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense agreement and pluralization, such as 'reception area that require', 'lack of of employee', 'conversation' instead of 'converse', 'People who came... they like', and 'suggestions will helps'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips persist across sentences, keeping the response at a Band 5.5 level.
