Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student covers all bullet points of the prompt, describing the complaints about the reception area, explaining its importance to company reputation, and suggesting actionable improvements. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and the response is affected by severe task misunderstandings regarding the nature of the complaints, notably the strange allegation that staff sell expired products. The tone is also somewhat inappropriately informal and accusatory in parts for a letter to a manager. Therefore, the response meets the basic requirements of the task but with notable weaknesses in content generation and tone, placing it at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks logical progression and clear paragraph structure. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and cohesive devices are inadequate or misused, such as 'As I Said before' and 'Well This area'. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with single-sentence paragraphs used awkwardly in the body of the letter. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. While there is a basic chronological arrangement from complaints to importance to suggestions, the overall organisation is mechanical and faulty, corresponding to Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, with frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'give you suggestion', 'company face', 'client objection', 'Sale Expiry products', and 'lake of cleanliness'. Spelling errors and incorrect word forms like 'lake' for 'lack', 'his own hand', and 'Your sincerely' further constrain the range. These noticeable errors and inadequate lexical control frequently cause difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the letter. The text contains numerous basic errors in punctuation, capitalization, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency, such as 'where all the visitors come first and that place also our company face where we showed company', 'products looks messy', and 'when individual enter in the firm they showed our own reputation'. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are consistently faulty, and simple sentences often contain fundamental errors. Frequent errors cause substantial difficulty for the reader, aligning with Band 4.0.
