Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing regarding the improvement of reception area.

To begin with, I have seen plenty of complaints on Facebook page. First of all, several complain I noticed about cleaning as well as staff responce after any question of customer.

In addition, in my opinion reception area play a significant role for attracting customers, so first imopression is the last impression. Also, customers would be gotten enough respond from the person who will be working on reception, they will be get delighted for company.

Finally, area should be very cleaned by cleaners every day as well as we need to hire perfect person for reception who have good communication skills.

Yours faithfull Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The candidate has attempted all parts of the letter, mentioning the complaints regarding cleaning and staff response, explaining the importance of the reception area through the adage 'first impression is the last impression', and suggesting improvements such as hiring cleaners daily and employing a communicative receptionist. However, the response is significantly under-length, containing only 115 words against the mandatory 150-word minimum requirement. Because of this failure to meet the minimum word count, the task is only partially addressed in terms of development, pulling the score down to a 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter uses some basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'First of all', 'In addition', and 'Finally' to structure the response. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, and sentences lack smooth logical progression. For instance, the transition between discussing the complaints and the importance of the reception area is abrupt. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally confusing, as seen in 'they will be get delighted for company'. Overall arrangement is somewhat disjointed, placing this criterion at a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive ('complaints', 'cleaning', 'reception area', 'customers'). There are several noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'staff responce', 'customers would be gotten enough respond', 'get delighted for company', and 'very cleaned'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'imopression' and 'faithfull'. These lexical inaccuracies and limitations restrict the vocabulary score to a band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('reception area play'), awkward passive/active mixes ('area should be very cleaned by cleaners', 'customers would be gotten enough respond'), and tense misuse ('who will be working'). Punctuation and sign-off formatting ('Yours faithfull Patel') are also flawed. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the band 5.0 descriptor.
