Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing a letter to share you my opinion regarding reception area improvement. it is pleasure for me you taking my suggestion on reception area improvement.
Sir as you aware in hospitality the reception area is very important part for any hotel or any venture. where each guest visit and experience the service. Day before yesterday one client visited and complain about staff behavior as per visitor staff girl who handling them on counter using thier phone consistently.
Secondly the reception area is more important to deal woth each visitor in greatful manner. so we have to focus more in that particular area
In addition i would say we have to cope that issue on priority & staff phone usage should be prohibited completly during the shift hours by doing this we can provide the class service on reception if all staff have complete focus on each visitor.
Hope you will like my suggestion & implement on top most priority.
Your Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You described a specific complaint regarding staff phone usage, highlighted the crucial role of the reception area in creating a good first impression, and suggested practical improvements such as prohibiting phone usage during shifts. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive and under-developed, and the tone fluctuates between formal business correspondence and informal chat. For instance, the opening sentences 'I am writing a letter to share you my opinion' sound somewhat unnatural for a professional letter to a manager. Overall, you met all core task requirements adequately, positioning your response around a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
Your letter has a discernible overall structure, moving from an introduction to complaints, importance, and finally suggestions. However, paragraphing and logical progression are weak. Sentences are often broken up awkwardly, and linking words are either missing or misused, such as 'Day before yesterday one client visited' and 'Secondly the reception area is more important'. Cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or inaccurate, and referencing is sometimes unclear, which disrupts the flow of reading. Paragraph breaks are not fully utilised to separate distinct ideas, keeping this criterion at a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is limited and includes several noticeable word choice and collocation errors that make the writing sound unnatural. Examples include 'share you my opinion', 'staff girl', and 'class service'. You also made spelling errors such as 'thier' and 'woth' instead of 'their' and 'with'. While your vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey your basic meaning to the reader, the frequent errors and restricted range prevent you from achieving a higher band. This performance aligns closely with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentences, but your grammar control is weak. There are frequent errors in sentence structure, punctuation, and articles, such as missing verbs ('it is pleasure for me you taking my suggestion') and run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation (e.g., starting clauses with lowercase letters mid-paragraph). Many sentences contain errors that require the reader to slow down or guess your exact meaning. Although basic communication is achieved, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies places your grammar score at a Band 5.0.
