Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Avinash Sir,
I just received information regarding numerous compalints about reception area and that is why I am writing this letter to highlight some useful suggestions to improvise that area.
Commonly, several people complaint about the desk that it is not neat and tidy. Frequently the receptionist not able to find priority documents when the visitor want them in urgent bases. Secondly, during the busy hours clients not getting adequate amount of seatings because of more visitors and less chairs. These two compaints are repeatedly made by the guests. Reception area is most important part of our company as it is the first impression of our organisation and everyone is going to judge our work potential by this area.
According to me, first we need to arrange all the important documents by the punctual labels and need to devide them into perticular categories, then we must store them carefully into precisely tagged bin. This can make the finding process easier for the receptionist. Same as for the seating area we can order more chairs and convert the wide lobby area into waiting zone this is how we will enlarge seating area.
I hope my suggetions help to cut down the compaints and increas customer satisfation so soon.
Your faithful,
Yuvraj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The writer successfully covers all three parts of the prompt in an appropriate semi-formal tone. First, the complaints regarding the untidy desk, missing priority documents, and seating shortage are described. Second, the writer explains why the reception area is important, noting that 'it is the first impression of our organisation.' Third, actionable improvements are suggested, including filing documents into tagged bins and expanding the waiting area with additional chairs. While the ideas are somewhat straightforward and feature minor spelling and grammatical lapses, all bullet points are addressed effectively. The position and purpose of the letter remain clear throughout, fully satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 performance. Because the task response is well-structured and covers every prompt instruction, a band score of 6.0 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a clear and logical overall arrangement with distinct paragraphing. Each paragraph serves a specific function, moving smoothly from the purpose of the letter in the opening to the complaints and importance in the second paragraph, followed by solutions in the third. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Secondly,' 'According to me,' and 'Same as for the seating area,' though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'and that is why' in the opening sentence. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional minor awkwardness in cohesion keeps the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the structure is easy to follow, supporting a coherent progression of ideas throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'adequate amount,' 'customer satisfaction,' and 'potential.' However, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'compalints' (complaints), 'improvise' (improve), 'compaint' (complaint), 'perticular' (particular), 'suggetions' (suggestions), and 'increas' (increase). Furthermore, word choice is sometimes imprecise, such as using 'improvise' instead of 'improve' and 'punctual labels' instead of appropriate or clear labels. Despite these vocabulary and spelling errors, communication is rarely impeded, as the intended meaning remains understandable to the reader. These characteristics align well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-style structure 'this is how we will enlarge seating area.' However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing instances, such as 'Frequently the receptionist not able to find' (missing verb 'is'), 'clients not getting adequate amount of seatings' (missing auxiliary verb and incorrect pluralisation of 'seating'), and the sign-off 'Your faithful,' instead of 'Yours faithfully.' Punctuation is also occasionally inconsistent. While these errors occur regularly, they do not severely impede overall communication, as the reader can still readily grasp the intended meaning. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.
