Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Manager
I am write about some complaints about reception area. All these complaints are from Customers and as well as from our enployers.
Firstly i want to talk about the complaints that usually we received on daily basis. Reception area is too small and thats why its always crowdy everyday. Even the sitting chairs are also very uncomfartable individual have various problem while they sit.Owing to this they always have issue with our employers and our workers got distracted from their work.
The reception area is very important, because it is the first place where visitor come to get information. Owing to this area should be looking neet clean and positive . Good vibes attract visitors. It shows that company is professional and responsible .
According to my persepective i would suggest please add some more area and enhance the number of chairs and make place well organized. In addtion, please add some flowers and plants and clear sign to assist visitors .
I hope you look at my suggestions.
Your sincerely
Kuldeep.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully described the complaints (small and crowded reception area, uncomfortable chairs, and negative impacts on staff and visitors), explained the importance of the reception area as the first impression of the company, and provided suggestions for improvement such as expanding the area, adding chairs, and introducing plants and clear signs. The tone is appropriate for a workplace letter to a manager. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive and under-developed, particularly regarding the explanation of complaints and suggestions. To achieve a higher band, the points could be expanded with more specific details or scenarios, placing your response firmly at a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical paragraph structure that addresses each part of the prompt in sequence, opening with an appropriate salutation and closing with a sign-off. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Firstly', 'owing to this', and 'in addition'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'All these complaints are from Customers and as well as from our enployers' and repetitive transitional phrases. Paragraphing is generally clear, but the integration of ideas could be smoother. These limitations place the response at a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message about workplace complaints and suggestions. You make attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'professional', 'responsible', and 'organized'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('enployers' instead of employees, 'crowdy' instead of crowded, 'uncomfartable', 'persepective', 'neet') and inaccurate word choices ('add some more area' instead of 'expand the space'). These lexical errors occasionally impede communication or distract the reader, matching the requirements for a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'Owing to this area should be looking neet clean and positive' and 'The reception area is very important, because it is the first place where visitor come to get information.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including verb tense and form issues ('I am write about', 'we usually received', 'visitor come'), missing articles ('reception area', 'clear sign'), and punctuation mistakes. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the Band 5.0 descriptors.
