Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing in respond to your letter in which you asked my advice regarding how can we improve the reception area of our office to reduce the complaints of visitors.
As you are already aware about the complaints regarding reception like there is no visible sign to find reception desk and no any siiting area. e nobody is answering the calls on reception.
Reception area is the first face of the every company and it is necessary to keep this area visible and findable.
First of all we should move our reception desk near the front enterance with having appropriate sign. Apart from this there sould be some confortable sitting area designed with couch, table, and TV.
I am feeling delighted that you ask my suggestion.
Yours sincerely,
Deep,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by describing the complaints, explaining the importance of the reception area, and suggesting improvements. However, some ideas are under-developed, such as the brief and simplistic mention of why the reception area is important. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 139 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. To reach a higher band, all bullet points would need more fully extended explanations and the target word count must be achieved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical sequence of ideas, moving from the purpose of the writing to the complaints, the importance of the area, and finally the suggested solutions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or basic, relying on simple connectors like 'First of all' and 'Apart from this', and referencing is not always entirely smooth. To improve further, a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices should be employed to link sentences and paragraphs more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the main message about office improvements. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'delighted', but these are accompanied by word-choice and word-form errors, such as writing 'in respond to' instead of 'in response to', 'siiting' for 'sitting', and 'enterance' for 'entrance'. Spelling and lexical slips occur, but they do not severely impede communication. Using a more precise and accurate range of lexical items with correct collocations would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing in respond to your letter in which you asked my advice'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing throughout, such as 'how can we improve' used inside a noun clause, 'aware about', and missing articles like 'on reception' instead of 'at reception'. Punctuation and preposition use also show occasional lapses. While these errors rarely impede communication, a greater control over complex sentence structures and improved grammatical accuracy are needed for a higher band.
