Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter regarding the complaints of reception area which have been made by the visitors who visits our company. Many of them have complained about the furniture for waiting area which is not in good condition and have bad impact on visitors. Secondly, the customers who have to wait for a longer time at reception they complain about rest rooms are not available for their use.
I think reception area is the important location of the office which can have positive impact on visitors. If the reception looks neat and clean with good furniture and better environment then it attracts the customers. Additionally, this can allow the people to wait for a long hours at reception rather than rushing for their turn to get helped. Due to this reasons reception area should looks beautiful which can change guests mindset.
For the improvement of reception area we can replace the furniture first. Instead of old sofas, we can get one new L-shaped sofas and add some chairs with comfort seating to increase the sitting area. On the one side of reception we can construct the washroom. Moreover, we can also provide free wi-fi service for our customers which help them use their devices while sitting at waiting area.
Looking for a positive response.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score in this area. You clearly describe the complaints made by visitors concerning the worn furniture and the lack of restrooms, explain why the reception area is important for creating a positive initial impression, and offer practical suggestions for improvement, such as replacing old sofas and adding free Wi-Fi. Your position and ideas are presented clearly throughout the letter. To move up to a higher band, some of these ideas could be extended with more specific detail or further elaboration, ensuring that every point is fully explored rather than stated generally.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall arrangement and logical progression, successfully balancing the requirements of the task across distinct paragraphs. The opening states the purpose, the second paragraph explains the importance of the area, and the final body paragraph outlines your suggestions. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, with transition words such as 'Secondly', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover'. However, some of the referencing and connections between sentences feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, you could use a wider variety of linking phrases and ensure that referencing pronouns refer back smoothly without disrupting the natural flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary that is minimally sufficient for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points about office improvements. Words such as 'reception', 'furniture', and 'environment' are used appropriately. However, there are noticeable lexical limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'visitors who visits' (subject-verb agreement aside, the phrasing is slightly repetitive), 'bad impact', 'comfort seating', and 'change guests mindset'. There are also occasional awkward expressions like 'rushing for their turn to get helped'. To reach a higher standard, you need to incorporate a broader range of less common lexical items and pay closer attention to natural collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'If the reception looks neat and clean...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('visitors who visits', 'rest rooms are not available', 'reception area should looks'), missing or incorrect articles ('the furniture for waiting area', 'at a long hours'), and prepositions ('complaints of reception area'). These errors persist throughout the text and require some effort from the reader to parse, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve this score, you should focus on eliminating basic grammatical slips and exercising better control over article usage and verb forms in complex sentences.
