Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the task prompt. You describe the complaints, such as outdated seating and broken window glasses, explain the importance of the reception area regarding company standards, and suggest improvements like replacing windows and providing refreshments. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of the reception area's importance is somewhat brief, and the suggestions lack specific details about how they should be implemented. Nevertheless, your message is fully communicated to the manager, placing your performance comfortably at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the complaints to the importance and finally the suggestions. You use basic paragraphing effectively to structure the letter. While cohesion is at times a bit mechanical, particularly with referencing and transitions between sentences, it meets the requirements of the lower band and demonstrates some features of the higher band through clear paragraph separation and a logical flow. To reach the next level, you could integrate more sophisticated cohesive devices and ensure smoother links between your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "outdated", "crucial role", and "prominently". However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing "recenly" instead of recently, "examine" instead of examined, and "make perspective" instead of form an impression or perspective. Word form choices also need tightening, such as using "clean" instead of cleaning in your final paragraph. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight the need for greater precision in word choice and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter, such as relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are several grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and pluralisation. Examples include "spot" instead of spotted, "seating set" instead of seating sets or furniture, "window glasses" instead of window glass, and "seeing reception area" missing the article "the". Punctuation and sentence structures are generally clear enough for the reader to follow without difficulty, but frequent minor errors in grammar prevent you from achieving a higher band.
