Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or madam,
I hope you doing well, I am writing this letter to suggest some changes that need to be imporve.
Our company has received several complaints regarding the reception area. Mostly complaints were connected to the siting area. Due to less siting most of the time visitors needs to stand while waiting. Another thingd there is no refreshment provided to the visitor so they have to for long time with some snacks and water.
The reception area is main place from where people can judgge the reputation and growth of company . Also helps to attract new customers that could be more beneficial for income to our organization.
There are some measures that could be best in improving reception area. Firstly copany needs to focus on sitting requirments that can be done by adding more sofas at reception area. Moreover, there should be a wending machine or coffee machine ,so customers can enjoy their drinks while waiting .
It would be appreciated if you take attention on this concern.
Yours faithfully,
Lovepreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirements for a general training letter. You adequately describe the complaints regarding the seating and refreshments, explain the importance of the reception area to company reputation and customer acquisition, and suggest practical improvements such as adding sofas and a coffee machine. Your purpose is clear throughout. To move towards a higher band, the ideas could be developed further with greater elaboration. For instance, the section explaining why the reception area is important mentions that it helps attract new customers, but this point could be expanded to include specific examples of how first impressions influence client retention, bridging the gap between a standard explanation and a fully extended argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with a standard opening salutation, transition smoothly from describing complaints to explaining the importance of the area, and conclude with your suggestions and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main idea, such as grouping the complaints in the second paragraph and the solutions in the fourth. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, with transitional markers like 'Another thing', 'Also', and 'Firstly' helping to guide the reader through your arguments. While referencing is mostly clear, a more varied use of cohesive devices without relying on basic transitional words would elevate the structure further, ensuring that the flow between sentences feels even more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message, but it remains somewhat limited and repetitive. You make several attempts at less common lexical items, such as 'reputation', 'refreshment', and 'requirements', but these are accompanied by noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'imporve', 'siting', 'thingd', 'judgge', and 'wending'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary range and demonstrate greater precision in word choice and spelling. Using more varied and natural collocations, such as 'seating arrangements' instead of 'sitting requirments', and ensuring correct word forms will significantly strengthen this aspect of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside some basic complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly involving verb forms, articles, and prepositions, such as 'I hope you doing well', 'visitors needs', 'for long time', and 'take attention on this concern'. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, and missing articles or incorrect verb agreement cause noticeable distraction for the reader. To reach higher bands, you should aim to produce a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures, paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and accurate prepositional use within grammatical patterns.
