Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear patric,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing regarding a crucial matter of reception area in the office which needs immediate attention.
Recently, there were several visitors in our office and I have recieved numerous complaints regarding the cleanliness of the premises. Surprisingly, the representative from Tesla swipped his finger on reception desk and showed me the amount of dust it had. Moreover, some other members visiting us for business purposes have also pointed for the paintings to be dusky. With these conversations, I could easily sense that our reception area needs ergonoimic improvisation, spatial optimization and keen eyes for cleanliness.
Though, it might not be alarming now but eventually this may become biggest hindrance in companies growth. As we all know reception is the very first impresiion to any guest who enters the office and, "our fist impression is our last impresssion". Moving forward, I have already researched about some interior designers and better janitorial services through marketplace and, I will be attaching there contact details with this same letter.
Please go through the information and suggest what you finalize moving forward. I believe making all these changes can help us create a clean and responsible image in market. As we all know, companies value creates the trust with clients and thats the only way to maintain profitability.
Hope you understand the situation and would be responding soon regarding this matter.
Best regards,
Utkarsh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the prompt. You begin by describing specific complaints about dust from visitors, including a vivid anecdote about a Tesla representative, which clearly answers the first requirement. You then explain the importance of the reception area by noting its role in creating a first impression and maintaining trust and profitability. Finally, you suggest practical improvements by mentioning interior designers and janitorial services. All parts of the task are addressed, and a clear purpose is maintained throughout. However, some ideas show a slight tendency to overgeneralise, such as assuming this specific aesthetic issue could become the biggest hindrance to company growth. To move towards higher bands, you could extend and support your ideas with even greater depth and precision, ensuring every point is fully explored without minor leaps in logic.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing to structure your thoughts, separating the introduction, the specific complaints, the importance and proposed improvements, and the closing remarks. You also use cohesive devices flexibly to connect your ideas, such as "Moreover", "Though", and "Moving forward". While referencing is generally clear, there are occasional instances where cohesive relationships feel slightly mechanical or transition abruptly, such as introducing the janitorial services and marketplace research within the same breath as the Tesla anecdote. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, ensure that all transitional phrases flow seamlessly and that referencing across sentences remains consistently tight and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as "ergonomic improvisation", "spatial optimization", and "janitorial services". However, there are several word choice, collocation, and spelling inaccuracies that prevent you from reaching a higher band. For instance, you wrote "recieved" instead of "received", "swipped" instead of "swiped", "fist" instead of "first", and "impresiion" instead of "impression". Furthermore, phrases like "pointed for the paintings" are non-standard collocations, and "companies value creates" contains awkward phrasing. To improve your lexical score, you need to broaden your control over spelling and word forms, and ensure that less common expressions are used with precise collocational accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and conditional structures, which demonstrates an acceptable grammatical range. There are several error-free sentences, particularly in your opening and closing remarks. However, some errors in grammar, article usage, and punctuation persist throughout the text. For example, you missed a definite article in "matter of reception area" (should be "the reception area"), omitted an apostrophe in "companies growth" and "there contact details" (should be "company's" and "their"), and made a capitalization error in "patric". While these errors rarely impede communication, they prevent your writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control. To improve, focus on careful proofreading of articles, possessive forms, and basic punctuation.
