Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you suggestion about the reception area that needs to be improved in the company as I have heard several complaints from the visitors.

To begin with, last month, some complaints have been made by the visitors. The significant one is about the renewing the main entrance. Moreover, it is old design and it gives bad appearance to the entire company which needs to be improved. The other one is about the different compartment for the office as it makes the space congested for the visitors.

Furthermore, it plays an important role for the entire company as thousands of visitors come everyday for their visit to the company. Due to that reason, the area needs to be improved. However, I would suggest you that if you could renew it with morden design then it would be really nice. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you for your time and consideration to this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three requested points: it mentions complaints about the entrance and office compartments, explains that many visitors come to the company, and proposes renewing the area with a modern design. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally suitable for writing to a manager. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. For example, “different compartment for the office” is unclear, and the letter does not explain what visitors find problematic about these compartments. The importance of reception is also stated mainly through visitor numbers, without explaining its role as a first impression or a place to welcome and guide guests. Clarifying these points and giving more specific improvement suggestions would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, a paragraph about complaints, an explanation of importance and a suggestion, followed by a polite closing. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal the stages of the letter. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the progression within the final body paragraph is not fully clear: “Due to that reason” repeats the preceding point rather than developing it, while “However” does not introduce a clear contrast. The reference to “the other one” also makes the complaint less precise. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each point directly to its explanation or proposed solution.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main message, with relevant terms such as “reception area,” “visitors,” “complaints,” and “appearance.” There are also attempts to use more formal language, including “consideration” and “significant.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “the renewing the main entrance,” “different compartment for the office,” and “renew it with morden design.” The spelling error “morden” and the informal repetition of “nice” also limit precision. Choose more natural expressions for the specific problems and solutions, such as describing an outdated entrance or cramped seating, and use precise terms for the proposed renovation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional suggestion: “if you could renew it … then it would be really nice.” Most sentences communicate their general meaning, and the closing is appropriately formed. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “give you suggestion” needs an article or plural form, and “about the renewing the main entrance” has an incorrect structure. In “Moreover, it is old design,” the possessive determiner is missing; “everyday” should be two words in the sense intended. The conditional sentence would also be clearer with a more direct structure. Review articles, noun phrases and sentence punctuation while retaining the range of structures attempted.
