Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Justin,
The purpose of the letter is a reception area improvement which we can do with some changes.
There are number of complaints which we recived over the past 2 months and the main issue which we have founded is conjusted sitting area. People who visit our company for intreview, meeting and some other task have to stand just beacuse of limited chairs . Some reviews which i read from google maps were related to coffee machine and fresh water.
The reception area is a vital part of any company beacuse visitor judge the company condition just from this area and 90% of them make the decision in front desk that should we deal with this company or not.
with the help of construction we can improve front desk area. Some sitting space can be add with chairs and table and also paint job would be needed. Moreover,
a new coffee machine with RO filter can improve the area.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Your faithfully,
Harvinderpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you identify complaints about limited seating and the coffee machine and water, explain that visitors form an impression of the company at reception, and suggest adding seating, repainting, and installing a new machine and filter. These are relevant ideas, although some are less fully developed than others. For example, the complaints are described, but the coffee and water problems are not specified, and the proposed construction and paintwork are not explained in practical terms. The claim that 90% of visitors decide whether to work with the company at the front desk is also unsupported. Clarify the specific problems and briefly explain how each improvement would help visitors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from its purpose to complaints, the importance of reception, and proposed improvements, with a closing. Paragraphing helps separate these main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt: the opening sentence announces the purpose but does not lead smoothly into the details, and the final suggestions are compressed into a short paragraph. Connect related points more clearly and use paragraph breaks consistently. Some linking is mechanical, such as “Moreover,” before the coffee-machine suggestion, while references such as “this area” and “the area” could be made more precise. A clearer sequence—complaints, their effect on visitors, then matching solutions—would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “reception area,” “visitors,” “complaints,” “limited chairs,” and “RO filter,” so the main message is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less clear or less professional, including “recived,” “conjusted,” “intreview,” and “founded” where “found” is intended. Phrases such as “some other task” and “company condition” are also imprecise or unnatural. Aim for accurate, natural collocations suited to a formal workplace letter, such as “overcrowded seating area,” “job interviews,” and “the company’s image.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “People who visit our company for intreview, meeting and some other task have to stand…” and the sentence explaining why reception matters. However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “There are number of complaints,” “Some sitting space can be add,” and “visitor judge,” which show problems with articles, verb forms, and subject–verb agreement. The long sentence about visitors deciding whether to deal with the company is also difficult to follow and needs clearer sentence structure and punctuation. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct articles, and consistent singular or plural forms.
