Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are in good health and spirit. I am writing this letter to express my ideas to improve the reception area and to solve the problems. The main reason why we are getting complaints are the structure of the recpetion room. there's no sitting room for the customers and they have to wait for their turn in long queue. Moreover, No water and snacks available for the clients.
The Reception area is the place which create the first impression on custmoers and It also decide whether user want to come back to the place again or not.
In my opinion, if you want to increase the sales then we have to modified that place by providing the servies like water and snacks. In addition, Installing the chairs and sofas for clients so that they can wait while sitting rather then waiting in lines.
I hope you will take my ideas seriously and improved reception area so that in future we will not get any complaints.
Your Faithfully,
Raman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify the lack of seating and refreshments, explain that reception creates a first impression, and recommend providing water, snacks, chairs and sofas. The purpose is clear and the suggestions are relevant. The explanation of why reception matters is less fully developed, however: the link to repeat visits and sales is asserted rather than explained, and the complaints could be described more precisely, for example by clarifying how the queue affects visitors. The letter has an appropriate formal purpose, but “Dear Sir or Madam” and “Your Faithfully” do not match the instruction to write to your manager as directly as a named or role-based greeting and a consistent closing would. More specific development would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the purpose, describes complaints, explains the importance of reception, and then gives recommendations. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “In addition” make relationships between points clear. Some links are nevertheless mechanical, and the progression within the suggestions could be smoother: the sentence beginning “In my opinion” combines the sales rationale with two recommendations without clearly separating them. The final sentence provides a suitable closing idea, though it repeats the hope for improvement rather than summarising the proposed actions. Clearer transitions and more deliberate paragraph development would make the organisation feel more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “first impression,” “complaints,” “customers,” and “providing.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, or collocation errors reduce precision: “recpetion,” “custmoers,” “servies,” and “modified that place” are examples. Some expressions are also awkward, such as “sitting room” for a waiting area and “increase the sales” in this context. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they make the letter less natural and occasionally require interpretation. Aim for accurate, conventional workplace vocabulary and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the relative clause “The Reception area is the place which…” and the purpose clause “so that they can wait while sitting.” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “The main reason … are” should use a singular verb, while “which create” and “It also decide” need agreement with their subjects. “If you want to increase the sales then we have to modified” also has an incorrect verb form and an unclear shift in subject. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including the lowercase “there's” after a full stop. More accurate control of these patterns would improve clarity.
