Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

My name is Miral Ahir. I am writing this letter to give you some advice about your thing to improved the reception area in our company.

First of all, many visitors gave several compaints about our reception area. They said sometime there were no empty space for sitting and also, sometimes waiter service was not good. Also, they said only one person is not handle everything so, atleast two to three people are necessary for handling reception area.

Moreover, I would think that reception area is an identity of our company. Also, it is our first impresion. where people start their journey with our company. So, it is our responsibity to make it excellent because it helps to improve your company's reputation.

I would suggest that you could be improved it by some steps. Firstly, you could hire one another person for reception work. Also, you could improve waiter service to talk with employee and improve waiting area with add some extra chairs and table. So, people could not face difficulties when they wait for their appoinment.

I hope my advise would be a helpful for you and it make our reception area beautiful with excellent service.

Yours faithfully,

Miral Ahir.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you report complaints about seating, service and staffing, explain that reception creates a first impression and affects the company’s reputation, and suggest hiring another receptionist and adding chairs and tables. The purpose and your recommendations are clear. This meets the lower-band expectation of covering the task, and some explanation—particularly the link between reception and reputation—shows development beyond a basic list. However, the complaints and proposed service improvements are not always explained in enough detail; for example, “waiter service was not good” does not clarify what visitors experienced. To strengthen the response further, specify the problems and connect each recommendation directly to a complaint.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: an opening purpose, a paragraph describing complaints, an explanation of reception’s importance, and a paragraph of recommendations before the closing. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “Firstly” help readers follow the points, and the formal letter format is appropriate. This is a logical and generally easy-to-follow structure. At times, however, linking is repetitive, especially the repeated use of “Also” and “So,” and some connections between ideas are not fully clear. For instance, the move from improving waiter service to speaking with employees is difficult to follow. Use a wider range of transitions and make the relationship between each problem and solution explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “reception area,” “visitors,” “reputation,” “waiting area,” and “appointment.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form and spelling errors reduce precision. Examples include “your thing to improved,” “waiter service,” “first impresion,” and “my advise.” Some phrases, such as “make our reception area beautiful,” are understandable but do not express the practical improvements as precisely as they could. Build a more accurate set of workplace and customer-service expressions, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your recommendations sound clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally understand your message. However, the range is limited, and attempts to combine ideas often contain grammatical errors. For example, “only one person is not handle everything” has an incorrect verb construction, while “you could be improved it” uses an unsuitable passive form. There are also errors with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “I would think that reception area is an identity” and “first impresion. where people start their journey.” These patterns make some sentences difficult to process. Practise accurate modal constructions (“you could improve”), articles, and joining related clauses with correct punctuation before attempting more complex sentences.
