Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Donna,
I hope you are doing well. I have some suggestions on how we can improve companies reception area.
There is a complain box in our office and every week when we open it the most of the complains are regarding reception areas. As now the reception area has no place to sit when visitor comes to the office they had to stand the whole time when they wait there. So every guest compains that they gets very tiried during there wait time.
The reception area of the company is really important becauce that the place where every one comes first when they enter the building. Also that area displace how are compay works. Therefore thats that place where the company can make an impression on someone. As said first impression is the last impression.
I have some suggestion on how that area would be improved. First off all we can install some chaires so that customers can relax there when they are waiting.secondaly we can put some companies magzines and articles there for individual to read during there wait. This can be really helpfull for customers as they can get to know more about what they are actully geting here. And its also benefical for the company because it will make customers more interested and the sell of the company will increse by this.
I hope you will like my ideas. Thank you for your time and understanding.
Your faithfully
Guri

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points in the task: you report that visitors have nowhere to sit, explain that reception creates a first impression of the company, and suggest adding chairs and reading materials. The letter also maintains a clear, appropriate purpose and closes politely. Your suggestions are relevant, and you explain how magazines could help visitors learn about the company. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify how the seating or reading materials would address the complaints and consider adding a practical detail, such as the number of chairs or where they could be placed. The claim that this would increase company sales is less directly supported; a clearer link to visitor comfort and a professional impression would strengthen the proposal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall structure: it introduces the issue, explains the importance of reception, presents suggestions, and ends with a courteous closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and connectors such as “Therefore” and “First off all” signal relationships between ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or unclear, particularly “As said first impression is the last impression,” and the suggestions paragraph moves from visitor reading to increased sales without a smooth explanation. Referencing is also occasionally difficult to follow, as in “that area displace how are compay works.” To strengthen progression, use more precise links between each complaint, its proposed solution, and the benefit, while avoiding repeated “also” and “there.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “reception area,” “visitors,” “impression,” “customers,” and “suggestions.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “complain box” and “articles,” but several choices are inaccurate or repetitive, and spelling errors are noticeable throughout: “compains,” “tiried,” “chaires,” “magzines,” and “benefical.” Phrases such as “the sell of the company will increase” are not natural in this context and make the intended benefit less clear. This fits a limited but usable range: the reader can understand the main message, though errors sometimes interrupt smooth reading. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning natural collocations for customer service and workplace facilities.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause in “because they can get to know more about what they are actually getting here.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur frequently enough to affect readability. For example, “when visitor comes … they had to stand” shifts between singular and plural and uses an inconsistent tense; “the place where every one comes first” is missing a linking verb; and “the most of the complains are” has an incorrect article and plural construction. Punctuation also needs attention, especially the run-on sentence beginning “This can be really helpful” and the missing space after “waiting.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns before adding longer clauses.
