Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Manager,

I hope this message finds you well and excellent.

I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding the reception area where visiotrs of our company arrive. There have been numerious issues with the front desk area.

Firstly, some colleagues and visitors complaint that reception area does not provide enough information which is mandatory for our company such as scheduled meeting time, break time-period.

As per my perspective, reception area is mandatory for any business because it is main center of attarction. It helps to attract more customers towards the business. So, having a good reception area and receptionsit is great idea for any firm.

I would like to give suggestions to improve the reception area for the productivity of the company. It is important to have computers and Wi-Fi facilities. Moreover, waiting area with table and chairs so individual can relax.

Thankyou

Your faithfully,

Harpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address all three requested points: you report complaints about missing information, explain that reception can attract customers, and suggest computers, Wi-Fi, and a waiting area. However, the complaint is only partly clear: “scheduled meeting time, break time-period” does not explain exactly what information visitors cannot obtain or how this affects them. The importance of reception is also stated generally, and the improvement suggestions would benefit from more detail—for example, explaining what information should be displayed or how the receptionist could assist visitors. The purpose is clear, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. A more specific account of the complaints and fuller explanations of each recommendation would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for the complaint, the importance of reception, and suggestions, followed by a closing. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help show how points relate. Overall, the reader can follow the main progression. However, some links are mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always fully clear. For instance, the sentence about reception being a “main center of attarction” moves quickly from its importance to attracting customers without explaining the connection. The final suggestions are also presented as fragments rather than developed sentences. Use clearer links between each point and build the paragraphs so that each idea leads naturally to its explanation or recommendation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “front desk,” “scheduled meeting,” “attract,” and “waiting area.” These choices make the general topic understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling or word-choice errors reduce precision: “visiotrs,” “numerious,” “attarction,” and “receptionsit.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “excellent” in the opening and “break time-period.” “Mandatory” is repeated and does not fit naturally when describing the importance of a reception area. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “essential first point of contact,” “display meeting schedules,” and “comfortable seating.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise terms would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate the main points using mostly simple sentences and make some attempts to connect ideas, for example, “It helps to attract more customers towards the business.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. Articles and sentence structure need attention: “reception area does not provide” should be “the reception area does not provide,” while “Moreover, waiting area with table and chairs so individual can relax” is not a complete sentence. There are also agreement and form issues in “some colleagues and visitors complaint,” where the verb should be “complain.” The closing phrase “Your faithfully” also has an incorrect form. Practise complete sentences, article use, and subject–verb agreement, then check punctuation and sentence boundaries.
