Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Manager,

I am writing this letter to express concern about complaints received about reception of the company.

There are several complaints that I have read on goggle review, that needs to be improved. Most common complaint is poor waiting seating arrangements, there are only couple chair in reception area. That means it is not enough for people to wait to get helped, especially during busy hours elderly have to wait in a queue for 20-30minutes. Moverover, there is no bin around, and people through papers around, that makes bad impact on person who visit company for first time.

To solve these issues, I would like to suggest to get more comfortable chairs or a sofa for customers to wait and place garbage bins near to the receptions area to get place need and cleaned. A receptions is the first impression it should be inters

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two specific complaints—too few seats and no bin—and explain that the lack of seating affects elderly visitors during busy periods. You also suggest adding chairs or a sofa and placing bins nearby. However, the task is only partially addressed: the importance of reception is mentioned briefly in the unfinished sentence, “A receptions is the first impression,” without explaining how it shapes visitors’ views of the company. The proposed improvements also need clearer detail, and the letter ends abruptly. The response is 148 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 150. Develop the importance point and explain how each suggestion would improve visitors’ experience.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the complaints, describes examples, and then offers solutions. Linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “To solve these issues” help show the relationship between points. However, the progression is not fully controlled: the importance of reception is introduced only at the end, where the sentence is incomplete, and the closing follows immediately. Some connections are unclear, particularly “to get place need and cleaned,” which makes the intended result of adding bins difficult to follow. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the complaints, the reception’s importance, and the recommendations, and ensure each paragraph develops one clear point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “complaints,” “waiting,” “busy hours,” “comfortable chairs,” and “first impression.” This gives the reader a general understanding of the issues and proposed changes. However, the range is limited, and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “goggle review,” “people through papers around,” and “get place need and cleaned.” Some phrases are also repeated, such as “reception area.” Choose more precise expressions—for example, “online reviews,” “litter,” and “keep the area clean”—and check spelling and natural word combinations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence explaining the effect of limited seating on elderly visitors. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “there are only couple chair” has problems with articles and plural agreement, while “A receptions is the first impression it should be inters” is incomplete and lacks clear sentence boundaries. The opening also needs more accurate sentence construction around “complaints received about reception.” Practise forming complete sentences, checking singular and plural nouns, and using punctuation to separate independent ideas. A careful final edit would improve clarity.
