Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir Brian,
Good day sir, after the visit of Tesla Company to us we recieved several complaints about the reception where they visited and stayed. I am writing this letter to discuss the complaints that have been made and suggest how can we improved the said place.
The complaints that they have been made are the lack of chairs and the hot temperatue of the room. There are 15 chairs that have been prepaired but the visitors are total of 20. The room became hot because the air condition is not working.
The reception is a valuable area because it is on the front view of our company and most of the visitors stay they for a while for evaluation of their identity.
I want to suggest to prepare more chairs not as exact as the total of the guest that we are expecting. I suggest also the check all the appliances in the reception are before the arrival of guest. If maybe, we could just put two air condtion in the room. Thank you and have a nice day ahead!
Respectfully yours,
Nick Delz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you report the shortage of chairs and the broken air conditioning, explain that reception is visitors’ first view of the company and where they wait for identity checks, and propose adding chairs and checking equipment. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. The explanation of reception’s importance is brief, however, and the suggestions could be more specific—for example, state how many additional chairs are needed or propose a maintenance schedule. The opening and closing are appropriate for a letter to a manager, though “Dear Sir Brian” is an awkward form of address if Brian is the manager’s name. The response covers the task well overall, but some points are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the purpose, describes the complaints, explains the reception area’s importance, and then gives recommendations. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “The complaints” and “I want to suggest” signal the topic of each section. Some connections are less smooth or precise, particularly “after the visit of Tesla Company to us” and “The complaints that they have been made,” which make the opening of the complaint paragraph difficult to follow. The recommendations also arrive as a series of short statements rather than being linked into a developed plan. Use clearer references and connect each proposed action to the problem it addresses to make progression more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main issues and recommendations, including “lack of chairs,” “air condition,” “valuable area,” and “appliances.” However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “front view of our company,” “stay they,” and “prepare more chairs.” Spelling errors in “recieved,” “temperatue,” “prepaired,” and “condtion” are also noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the message. Aim for more precise workplace language, such as describing reception as the company’s “first point of contact” and saying that chairs should be “provided” or “added.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural collocations would make the letter clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex forms, such as “The room became hot because the air condition is not working.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur across sentence structures and verb forms. For example, “suggest how can we improved” uses incorrect word order and verb form; “The complaints that they have been made” has an unclear construction; and “I suggest also the check” is not grammatically complete. There are also problems with articles and number agreement in phrases such as “the total of the guest.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, especially in the opening and recommendations. Practise indirect questions and suggestion patterns, such as “I suggest that we check…” and “how we can improve…,” then proofread each sentence.
