Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am wiritng this lettter to make some suggestion on changing the reception area.
As you know, many clients made a complaints on the waiting area. Firstly, I would like to share what issues are mentioned by the visitors such as shortage of chairs, no sanitizier, paper towel and even unclean and smelly washrooms.
The reception area is very important because it shows the environment of the office, provide peace to the customers.
I would like to arrange more sitting place including chairs and sofas. Besides this, my plan is to install an automatic sanitizer machine on the corner of the wall. Also, put some plants on the sides of the room so clients feel warm welcome.
At the end, I would say, by overcoming these issues will not only satisfied the visitors but also help to gain more positive outcomes.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
AK

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you identify complaints about seating, hygiene supplies and the washrooms, explain that reception shapes visitors’ impression of the office, and suggest additional seating, a sanitizer dispenser and plants. This gives the letter a clear, relevant purpose. The explanation of importance is less fully developed than the list of complaints and proposed changes: “provide peace to the customers” is unclear, and you could explain more directly how a welcoming, comfortable reception affects clients’ confidence in the company. The improvement plan also does not respond to the complaint about the unclean, smelly washrooms. Your suggestions are relevant, but explaining how each would resolve a specific concern would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression from its purpose, to the complaints, to the importance of reception, and then to proposed improvements. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Besides this,” and “At the end” make the sequence easy to follow. The overall organisation is effective, though some linking feels formulaic, and the final paragraph does not connect its general claim about positive outcomes to particular suggestions. The closing also feels abrupt after “Thank you,” with no clear final request or invitation to discuss the plan. Use transitions that show the relationship between each complaint and its solution, and finish with a concise, purposeful closing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main concerns and recommendations, including “shortage of chairs,” “automatic sanitizer machine,” and “positive outcomes.” There is some attempt at more specific language, but several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “made a complaints,” “sitting place,” and “feel warm welcome.” Spelling slips in “wiritng,” “lettter,” and “sanitizier” also reduce accuracy. These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and control. Aim for natural collocations such as “raised complaints,” “seating,” and “feel welcome,” and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “the environment of the office, provide peace” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “by overcoming these issues will not only satisfied” has a faulty sentence structure and verb form. There are also errors in number and articles in “a complaints” and “more sitting place.” Most ideas can still be followed, but these patterns show that complex constructions are not yet consistently controlled. Practise building complete clauses with clear subjects and matching verb forms, and check articles and singular/plural forms when editing.
