Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to inform you regarding certain complaints, which we have recieved from our firm's visitors.
I would appreciate it, if you could consider distinct compliants from visitors. They disappointed with our accomodation facility for a waiting area. They found discomfort, while wait for their collegue. Another complaint that I have listened that visitors found challenging to use a coffee vending machine. Athough, they have made payment for their beverages, yet they could not receive their desired coffee due to the certain faults in the machine.
The reception area is plays a paramount role to depict overall firms' reputation. In order to obtaine excellent reviews, we require to allocate excellent ameneties to our visitiors especially nearby reception. This can be assistfull to incline excellent reputation in market.
I would appreciate it, if you could allote fund to increase seating furniture. I would also appreciate it , if could take essential actions to fix the coffee vending machine as soon as possible.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your Faithfully,
Vishakha Chavda.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you report discomfort in the waiting area and problems with the coffee machine, explain that reception shapes the company’s reputation, and request more seating and repairs. The purpose is clear and the suggestions are relevant. The complaints are more specific than the explanation of reception’s importance, which remains general: the link between visitors’ first impressions and the company’s reputation could be explained more fully. The proposed improvements would also be stronger with practical detail, such as adding comfortable chairs or arranging regular machine maintenance. The formal letter format and closing are appropriate overall, though the salutation could be addressed to your manager by name or title.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the complaints, explains the reception area’s importance, makes recommendations, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Another complaint” signal a new point. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, including “I would appreciate it, if you could consider distinct complaints,” which does not clearly introduce the details that follow. The transition from the complaints to the reputation point is also abrupt. Use more direct linking and clearer references—for example, connect the waiting-area and machine problems to the impression visitors form of the company. This would make the progression smoother and less dependent on repeated “I would appreciate it” phrasing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a suitably formal range, including “paramount role,” “reputation,” and “essential actions,” and the reader can generally understand the intended message. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “accomodation facility for a waiting area,” “incline excellent reputation,” and “allocate excellent amenities.” Spelling errors—including “recieved,” “compliants,” “collegue,” and “ameneties”—also reduce precision. Some expressions appear more elaborate than necessary, while simpler, natural wording would communicate the ideas more effectively. Aim to learn common combinations such as “comfortable waiting area,” “enhance the company’s reputation,” and “repair the machine,” and check spelling carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional request (“if you could allocate funds”) and a reason clause (“due to the certain faults”). The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms occur across the letter. For example, “They disappointed with our accommodation facility” is missing a verb, while “The reception area is plays” contains an unnecessary second verb. Other issues include “while wait for their colleague” and “if could take essential actions,” where the clause structure is incomplete. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and punctuation around commas. Practise building complete clauses and checking each sentence for a subject and correctly formed verb; this will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
