Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear John,

I am writing this letter to demonstrate few amendments that our reception areas requires as per your request. I would like to appreciate your apporach .

Well, in our company individuals have been challaneged with setting area. Even though we have a plenty of amentities for customers, when in our peak period people have to wait in queue for long time for their turn especially in winter holidays. Moreover, the couches in reception area is discomfortable for valunerable customers.

As our firm has better reputation in the competative market, reception area is extremely indespensable in many ways.It is the place which enhance the beauty of our salon. If it is fully occupied without accurate setting facilitiy ,it can put adverse impact on new customers.

In my opinion, it can be upgraded by providing wider space.Instead of It should be designed with modernization and in asthetic ways. In addition,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify relevant complaints, including long queues during peak periods and uncomfortable seating for vulnerable visitors, and explain that reception affects the company’s reputation and first impression. You also begin to suggest improvements, such as providing more space and modernising the design. However, the response does not fully develop the requested suggestions: the final sentence breaks off at “In addition,” and there is no clear, complete set of practical actions. The importance of reception is mentioned but only briefly explained. To make the letter more complete, finish the recommendations and explain how they would address the specific complaints, for example by adding seating or improving queue management.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: it opens with the purpose, then discusses complaints, explains the reception area’s importance, and starts a paragraph of recommendations. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is weakened by abrupt or incomplete points, especially the ending “In addition,” and the recommendation “Instead of It should be designed…” which does not form a clear connection. Some linking phrases, such as “Moreover” and “In my opinion,” help signal relationships, but the ideas within paragraphs are not consistently connected or fully developed. Use complete sentences, make each paragraph’s purpose clear, and link each proposed improvement directly to a complaint.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “peak period,” “vulnerable customers,” “reputation,” and “adverse impact.” These choices show an effort to use more formal language. However, several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the message difficult to understand, such as “challaneged with setting area,” “amentities,” “discomfortable,” and “accurate setting facilitiy.” Some expressions are also unnatural, including “demonstrate few amendments” and “enhance the beauty of our salon.” Choose precise, familiar collocations for the situation, such as “raise concerns about the seating” or “create a positive first impression.” Proofreading spelling and checking phrases in context would make your meaning clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession beginning “Even though” and a conditional sentence with “If.” However, errors in sentence construction and grammatical control occur often enough to make some ideas hard to follow. For example, “the couches in reception area is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “It is the place which enhance” also needs agreement between the subject and verb. The sentence beginning “Instead of” is incomplete, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Practise building complete sentences around one main idea, checking singular and plural subjects, and using a full clause after linking expressions. These steps will help your varied structures communicate more reliably.
