Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing to express my sugesstions about reception area. Actually, we recieved a number of complains from visiors about reception area due to lack space for waiting as well as poor communicattion with them. Moreover, reception area is more crucial because it makes reputation in the world because as vistors inspire from their deal with customers and better sitting area for waiting, they would suggest their friends and relatives about their organization. In addition to it, i want to some changes in this area due to make more reputative. Firstly, we should more attention to wide the space for sitting and bring some chairs and tables for visitors. Secondly, we need to recruit those people who have good communication, patiance and time management so they can deal with customers with easiest way.
I hope you would consider my perceptions and take an effevtive steps to improve the front area as soon as possible and i will appericiate for your further response.
Yours faithfully,
Gagandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you identify limited waiting space and poor communication, explain that reception shapes visitors’ impressions of the company, and suggest more seating and recruiting staff with stronger interpersonal skills. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the suggestions are relevant. The explanation of the reception area’s importance is the strongest part, although the link between visitors’ experience and the company’s reputation could be expressed more precisely. The complaints and proposed changes are also somewhat brief: for example, you could explain how the lack of space affects visitors or give a specific improvement to the communication process. This covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing fuller development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a generally sensible order: complaints first, then the importance of reception, followed by recommendations and a closing. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “In addition to it,” and “Firstly” help signal these stages. However, the response is presented as one long body paragraph, so the shifts between explaining importance and proposing changes are not clearly marked. Some linking phrases also feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas in the sentence beginning “because as visitors…” is difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the complaints, importance, and suggestions, and make links between cause and result more direct. This would make the progression easier to follow while retaining the relevant content.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “reception area,” “reputation,” “communication,” and “time management.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less natural, such as “sugesstions,” “complains,” “visiors,” and “reputative.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise: “make reputation in the world” and “deal with customers with easiest way” do not express the intended ideas idiomatically. Aim for accurate collocations and a more formal register, for example, describing the reception as shaping visitors’ first impressions and recommending that staff communicate professionally. These issues are noticeable and occasionally make the reader work to interpret your meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a result clause beginning “so they can.” However, complex structures are not consistently controlled. For example, “because as visitors inspire from their deal…” has an unclear clause structure, while “I want to some changes” is missing a verb pattern needed after “want.” There are also errors with articles, agreement, and sentence construction, as in “reception area is more crucial” and “take an effective steps.” Capitalisation of “I” is inconsistent, and several long sentences need clearer punctuation. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them; this will help you express your ideas without the reader having to infer the intended grammar.
