Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the closure of local shops in favor of malls is a positive development. The ideas are relevant, focusing on convenience, employment, and variety. However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding employment is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of the economic impact on the local community. The response covers all parts of the task, but the arguments could be more thoroughly supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the benefits of convenience to economic impacts. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly hampered by awkward phrasing, such as 'Discussing my opinion the foremost one I shall put forward'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments, which helps the reader follow the writer's line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'operation and maintenance', 'employment opportunities', and 'branded clothing'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Nowaday' instead of 'Nowadays', 'diffirent' instead of 'different', and 'cliemet' instead of 'climate'. These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a lack of precision and control over more sophisticated lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the foremost one', 'a wide range of branded clothing'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'all shopping complex are' should be 'all shopping complexes are'. Additionally, there are issues with sentence fragments and run-on sentences, such as 'As a result a number of small local stores have closed.' These errors are frequent, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
