Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to remind you about our last conversation which took place in plane journey while travelling from Vancouver to Toronto last friday in the Air Canada plane.
I am interested in the position of a supervisor in any of the restaurant. I have experience of two years working at the airport in the A&W restaurant. This is quite busy location and I know know to handle the situation in the peak hours. I always remain calm and handle the customers with great care and respect.
I would be perfect for the job because I already have the experience. Along with this, I am quick learner. Once, I see any work I always remember. I am responsible and cooperative person. I can merge myself in any situation to run the restaurant in the smooth manner.
Thank you for considering my application. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Abc

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you identify the journey from Vancouver to Toronto, state that you want a supervisor position, and explain your suitability through two years of restaurant experience and your ability to stay calm with customers. These details make your purpose clear and relevant. The reasons for your suitability are extended with qualities such as being responsible and cooperative, although some claims—particularly “Once, I see any work I always remember”—would be more convincing with a specific example or clearer explanation. The greeting and closing are appropriate, but using the businessman’s name, if known, would make the letter more personal. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some scope to develop the supporting details further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you recall the meeting, describe the role you want, explain your qualifications, and close politely. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Along with this” and “because” show how ideas relate. The progression is generally clear, but some links feel mechanical, and the suitability paragraph presents several qualities in a list without showing how they connect to the supervisor role. The opening sentence is also crowded with journey details, which makes the reminder less smooth. To strengthen cohesion, use a wider range of natural transitions and connect each personal quality to a specific responsibility, such as managing busy service periods or supporting staff.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “position,” “supervisor,” “experience,” “peak hours,” and “responsible.” This is enough to communicate your interest and qualifications, but the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “in any of the restaurant” and “merge myself in any situation” do not express your meaning naturally; “in one of your restaurants” and “adapt to different situations” would be clearer. “Quick learner” is understandable, but “a quick learner” is the natural form. Aim for precise workplace language and avoid repeating general claims about your qualities. More accurate collocations would make the letter sound more professional and persuasive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter uses mostly short, straightforward sentences, with some attempts to combine ideas, such as “I would be perfect for the job because I already have the experience.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in articles, agreement, and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “in plane journey” needs an article and a more complete phrase, while “in any of the restaurant” has a number-agreement problem. “I am responsible and cooperative person” also needs an article. The sentence beginning “Once, I see any work” has an awkward structure and tense pattern. Practise accurate article use and build a few controlled complex sentences to explain how your experience prepares you for supervisory duties.
