Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully reminded the recipient of the meeting, identified the desired role, and explained your suitability. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention your experience, providing a specific example of a challenge you overcame or a particular achievement at your previous restaurant would have made your application more persuasive. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening 'Dear Sir' is a bit generic; using the name if known or 'Dear Mr [Name]' would be more professional. Overall, you have fulfilled the task requirements effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic paragraphing to separate your introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures and lack transition words to connect your ideas smoothly. For example, the transition between mentioning your experience and your skills could be improved with linking phrases like 'Furthermore' or 'In addition to this'. Improving the flow between sentences would help the reader follow your argument more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant industry-specific terms such as 'fast-paced environment', 'team member', and 'serving skills'. However, there is some repetition of basic words like 'restaurant' and 'information'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations. For example, instead of saying 'I have abilities to manage', you could use 'I possess the capability to oversee'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'take order' which should be 'taking orders'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in plane journey' should be 'on a plane journey'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'you also hiring' should be 'you are also hiring'), and punctuation errors. Additionally, there is a spelling error with 'peaced' instead of 'paced'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of your writing.
