Dear Tim
My name is Maitrey. We meet on our recent flight together from India to Canada and we talked about your chain of restaurants and about the cooking course that I was going to study in Canada.
I recently finished my studies and I am writing you this letter as I recently saw a job opportunity for the position of a chef in one of your restaurants. I am interested in this opportunity as I believe that working as a chef in a your reputed chain of restaurants will help me develop my skills and knowledge as a chef and in turn assist me in a building a successful career.
I think I am a suitable candidate for this job as my studies and the skills that I have learned during my course align with the job duties and the skills required for this job. I work great under pressure and I can manage multiple tasks at one time which are essential qualities for any chef. I will also be sending you my resume via mail. I hope we can meet and discuss about the opportunity soon.
Yours sincerely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly identified the context of the meeting, specified the role of a chef, and provided relevant reasons for your suitability, such as your recent studies and ability to work under pressure. The tone is appropriate for a professional follow-up letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about your culinary training or previous experience to further develop your ideas and make your candidacy more compelling.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'in turn', 'as', and 'which' are used to connect ideas effectively. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of information is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'reputed chain of restaurants' and 'align with the job duties' are well-chosen. There are minor errors, such as 'a your reputed' (an unnecessary 'a') and 'via mail' (usually 'via email' or 'by post' in this context). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or industry-specific terminology would enhance the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'We meet' (should be 'We met') and 'discuss about' (the verb 'discuss' does not take a preposition). Additionally, 'a building' contains an unnecessary article. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help you achieve a higher band score.
