Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully reminded the recipient of the meeting context, identified the desired role, and explained your suitability. The tone is generally appropriate for a business-related follow-up, though it leans slightly informal in places. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the purpose of the letter is immediately understood. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of your suitability is more professional; for instance, instead of saying you will 'cop up' (cope) with the environment, focus more on your professional adaptability and specific contributions you can make to his restaurant chain.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'Moreover' is used, but other links between sentences are sometimes missing or mechanical, such as the reliance on 'and' to connect clauses. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a smoother flow between your ideas, such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'given my background'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your meaning. You use industry-relevant terms like 'chef' and 'food chain'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cop up' instead of 'adapt' or 'cope', and 'on flight' instead of 'on a flight'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'I am good with cooking'. To improve, focus on using more precise professional terminology and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated descriptors for your experience and skills would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include 'I hope you doing well' (missing auxiliary verb), 'you must be remember me' (incorrect modal structure), and 'we were fly' (incorrect tense). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentence boundaries are slightly awkward. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb tenses and auxiliary verbs. Proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
