Student answer (Band 6.5)
I hope you are doing well, I am Dhara whom you met day before yesterday on a flight from Ontario to Alberta. Just to remind you I was seating next to you during that flight and we had a good conversation about our professional life.
As per your suggestion, I am writing this E-mail to let you know my interest in possible job opening in your restaurant. I had graduated from Food and quality control course and I am looking for a job in similar position which is restaurant manager. I am very keen to work in a food chain restaurant as I always dream to build my own restaurant.
This would be a great opportunity for me to get best practical knowledge also, I have working experience as quality supervisor which would also help your restaurant with some quality control strategies. I hope to hear back soon from you with a positive response.
Thank you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the context of the meeting (flight from Ontario to Alberta), specify your interest in a restaurant manager role, and provide relevant background regarding your education and experience as a quality supervisor. The tone is appropriate for a professional follow-up letter. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on how your specific skills would benefit his particular chain of restaurants, as the current explanation is a bit general. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the response is well-focused.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As per your suggestion' and 'This would be a great opportunity', which help connect your thoughts. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places. For instance, the opening paragraph is a bit repetitive with the mention of the flight. Using a wider variety of linking words or phrases would improve the flow and help you move into the higher band range.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional life', 'quality control', and 'practical knowledge'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I had graduated from Food and quality control course' (should be 'a course in...') and 'looking for a job in similar position' (should be 'a similar position'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over articles and prepositional phrases to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I was seating next to you' (should be 'sitting') and 'I always dream to build' (should be 'I have always dreamed of building'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the comma splice in the first sentence ('I hope you are doing well, I am Dhara...'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on verb tenses and sentence boundaries will help improve your accuracy.
