Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the context of the meeting, specified the desired role, and provided relevant reasons for your suitability. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a business contact. To reach a higher band, ensure that all details are fully developed; for instance, you could have elaborated slightly more on how your specific skills would benefit his particular restaurant chain. However, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Also' and 'Hence' to link your thoughts. To improve, try to vary your linking words and phrases to avoid repetitive structures. For example, instead of starting multiple sentences with 'Also', you could use 'Furthermore' or 'In addition'. Overall, the progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'enthusiastic discussion', 'fast-paced environment', and 'extensive experience'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'an job opening' (should be 'a job opening') and 'restaurant lines' (which is slightly unnatural). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations related to the hospitality industry would elevate your writing. You have a good foundation, and your language is generally appropriate for a professional context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical slips that occur throughout the text, such as 'I writing' (missing auxiliary verb 'am'), 'in a recent flight' (should be 'on'), and 'at BBQ restaurant' (missing article 'a'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Proofreading your work for these small, mechanical errors would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
