Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ms. Brown,

Hope this letter find you in radiant health. I am writing this letter regarding our talk about a possible job in one of your restaurants in Ahmedabad. If posible we decided to meet at Havmore Restaurant on Sunday evening.

Recently I have completed my studies in hotel management course. I have been working as staff manager for part-time at local restaurant for a year. I would like to do full time job as hotel manager as I received adequate trainin for managing staff and accommodation facilities, as well as checking food quality, according to visitors exceptations. Moreover, I also learned social skills to communicate politely with visitors. As I believe that communication has play major role to attract the tourists.

I would be great If you could provide me a managing opportunity at one of your restaurants. I believe my communication skills and hotel management study and training help a restaurant to attract more people to visit.

I Hope this letter re-call about meeting and provide sufficient information about my education and experiences.

Yours sincerely,

Bijal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully reminded the recipient of the meeting, specified the desired role, and explained your suitability. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; while you use a formal opening, the content feels a bit informal in places, such as 'Hope this letter find you'. Additionally, the mention of meeting at a restaurant on Sunday seems to contradict the prompt, which implies you met on a plane journey. Ensure that your narrative details align strictly with the provided scenario to maintain full relevance. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'As I believe' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'I Hope this letter re-call about meeting'. The transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. While the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical rather than natural. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows logically into the next would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'adequate training', 'accommodation facilities', and 'communication skills'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'radiant health' (which is overly flowery for a business letter), 'managing opportunity', and 're-call about meeting'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are appropriate for a professional context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Hope this letter find you', 'communication has play major role'), spelling errors ('posible', 'trainin', 'exceptations'), and punctuation inconsistencies. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses, pluralization, and basic spelling. Focusing on proofreading your work for these common slips will help you achieve a higher score.
