Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the context of the meeting (the flight from Vancouver to Toronto), specified the types of roles you are interested in, and provided a logical justification for your suitability by highlighting your work ethic and previous experience. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To improve, ensure you address the recipient by name if possible, or use 'Dear Sir or Madam' if the name is unknown, rather than 'Dear sir'. Overall, the task is fully accomplished with clear, relevant ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Actually' to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of transition words and ensuring that referencing is more precise. For example, in the second paragraph, 'namely customer service' is slightly awkward; a phrase like 'such as' would be more natural. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'dedicated and willing to learn' and 'asset for your business' are effective. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'do work in every area' (should be 'worked in every area') and 'any of position' (should be 'any position'). While you successfully communicate your intent, incorporating more precise professional terminology would elevate your writing to a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the flight', 'a position'), verb tenses ('You seated next to me' should be 'You were sitting next to me'), and subject-verb agreement. Additionally, the closing 'Your faithfully' is incorrect; it should be 'Yours faithfully'. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on consistent use of articles and correct verb forms in past tense narratives.
