Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Johan,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in joining your restaurants groups , following our conversation during the recent flight.
We sat next to each other on flight AB88902 from London to New York on 14 July. During that journey we discussed about culinary innovation design and employment opportunities within your chains of restaurants.
I am highly interested in joining as a Senior manager in your restaurants. As our last discussion about culinary and your business expansion . I feel that leadership roles with operational team mutually benefits.
I am particularly suited for this position because I done a Bachelor's in Hotel Management and Hospatitalty. I also have 3 year experience as Assistant Manager in restaurant. In previous role, I successfully optimized table turnover and customer satisfaction was also increased. Moreover, I can work under pressure very well and adaptable .
Thankyou for your time and consideration. I will welcome employment opportunity to discuss how my qualification will fit in your organization.
Kind Regards
Mehak Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly identified the context of the meeting (flight AB88902), specified the desired role (Senior Manager), and provided relevant background information regarding your qualifications and experience. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, when mentioning your suitability, you could provide a more specific example of how you optimized table turnover, rather than just stating it as a fact. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the response is well-focused.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the specific request and finally to your qualifications. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate these ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'In previous role', to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, such as the sentence 'As our last discussion about culinary and your business expansion'. Improving the flow between these sentences would enhance the overall coherence. The referencing is generally clear, and the letter is easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'culinary innovation', 'operational team', and 'optimized'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'restaurants groups' (should be 'restaurant group') and 'Hospatitalty' (spelling error). Additionally, 'I done a Bachelor's' is grammatically incorrect and uses a basic verb form. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of professional terms. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical inaccuracies that slightly impede the flow. For example, 'we discussed about' is incorrect (discuss is transitive), and 'I will welcome employment opportunity' is missing an article. The phrase 'I also have 3 year experience' should be '3 years of experience'. While you attempt complex structures, the control is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
