Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope your are doing great and hope your rest of journey was alright.
I am writing this letter to remind you about that flight journey when we met, and you talked about different branches of your restaurants. You did tell me your were planning to expand your restaurant business into new city thunder bay this month. Fortunately, I had shifted to thunder bay this week.
As I remember, I mentioned that I used to work in taco time a Mexican restaurant as a manager. I had left that job, because of my location. I am really interested in work in your restaurant to be working as a customer server.
I definitely think so I am the best suitable person for this position. I know how to manage all the situation in case of rush. I am a confident speaker to clear all the doubts of customers. These all things can make me work more efficiently and effectively.
I hope you would like me as a customer server position and give me respond for my application.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the context of the meeting, specified the desired role of a customer server, and provided relevant reasons for your suitability, such as your previous experience at Taco Time and your ability to handle busy situations. The tone is generally appropriate for a business-related letter, although the opening is slightly informal. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more explicitly in the opening paragraph and that the closing is more professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the initial meeting to the job application and then to your qualifications. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'given my background') rather than relying on simple sentence structures. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your meaning. You use some topic-specific terms like 'restaurant business', 'customer server', and 'application'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'had shifted' instead of 'moved' and 'clear all the doubts' instead of 'address customer concerns'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of professional collocations would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles (e.g., 'your are doing great', 'your rest of journey', 'into new city thunder bay', 'these all things'). There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'I definitely think so I am the best suitable person'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve accuracy.
