Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to inform you that as I talked with you and as per your suggestion you told me to contact you about a job in one of your restaurants.
We met in a plane when we were travelling to our journey. Its not been long I think we met only few days ago when you were sitting beside me in the plane and then we had conversation about your restaurants.
I am interested in any job in the restaurant but if I am taking about my preference then i preferred to work in the kitchen as a cook as I had three years experience in cooking in well reputed restaurant and I preferred to work in during daytime and have a early morning shift if possible. Otherwise, I am good to go with everything.
According to me, if you give a chance to work in one of your restaurants then I think if will be beneficial for me and you as well because you can expect flexibility, overtime nature and as a floater in your company which would be a great helping hands for you also.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Harkomalpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully reminded the recipient of the meeting, specified your interest in a cooking role, and provided reasons for your suitability. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why you are suitable is quite repetitive, focusing on being a 'floater' and 'helping hands' without providing specific examples of your professional achievements or skills. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your experience, perhaps by mentioning specific cuisines you specialize in or particular kitchen management skills you possess, rather than relying on general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I am writing to', 'In addition', and 'I look forward to'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the second paragraph where the phrasing 'I preferred to' is used twice in close proximity. The transition between the meeting details and the job request could be smoother. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus to avoid the slightly disjointed feel of the current structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'well reputed', 'flexibility', and 'beneficial'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the professional tone. For example, 'travelling to our journey' is unnatural; 'travelling to our destination' or 'on our journey' would be better. Additionally, 'overtime nature' is not a standard collocation. While your meaning is always clear, the vocabulary remains somewhat basic and lacks the precision required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of professional business terminology would be highly beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include tense inconsistencies ('as I talked with you... you told me'), missing articles ('in a plane'), and awkward phrasing ('if will be beneficial'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be improved with better use of commas or conjunctions. While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a stronger grasp of English sentence construction to move beyond the current level.
