Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing very well. I am writing this to remind you regarding our first meeting.
As far as remember, we met first time in the British Airway when you were going to the UK and I was set in that plane to go the Canada. Similarly, I set next to you and you were talking about various vacancies in your restaurants. Therefore, you are going to hire people for deferent positions.
Moreover, I have completed my study in master of business administration. Therefore, I have enough knowledge about management of every organizations. As you were looking for candidates for assistant manager position, and I would like to apply for that.
I have accomplished my study in University Canada West, and it is renowned university my province. Because, it provides internship and volunteer opportunities to their all pupils, thus I have about 2 years experience of Macdonald restaurant. I was working their as a cashier and after 1 year promoted as assistant manager. This is because, I am considering my self appropriate for your restaurant.
I am looking for your prompt response. Thank you for your consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Tabassum.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You reminded the recipient of the meeting, specified the assistant manager role, and provided reasons for your suitability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention your experience at a restaurant, the connection between your academic background and the specific needs of his business could be more explicitly linked. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear Sir' is acceptable, using the businessman's name would have been more professional given you had a conversation with him. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the content could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'Similarly' to connect your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or are used incorrectly, such as 'Similarly' to describe sitting next to someone. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between your education and your work experience could be smoother. The paragraphing is clear, which helps the reader follow your argument, but the overall cohesion would benefit from a more natural variety of linking words and better sentence-to-sentence progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'vacancies', 'candidates', and 'internship'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing that impact the precision of your writing. For example, 'I was set in that plane' should be 'I was seated', and 'deferent positions' is a spelling error for 'different'. You also use 'my province' and 'Macdonald restaurant' in a way that feels slightly unnatural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, the lack of flexibility and the presence of errors in word choice and spelling prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I was set', 'I have completed my study'), article usage ('in University Canada West'), and prepositional errors ('working their as a cashier'). Some sentences are also structurally awkward, such as 'I am considering my self appropriate for your restaurant.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
