Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Mr. Hortons,
My name is Alex White, and I met you recently on 23rd August 2026, in a flight travelling from Ahmedabad to Delhi. I sat next to you and during our journey we had a very interesting conversation. You had mentioned that you are an owner of Tim Hortons which is a very famous chain of restaurants in our country. You suggested me to contact you about a possible job available at one of your restaurants.
Sir, I am interested in joining your restaurant as a 'Team Member' or a 'Food Service Supervisor' because I have worked as a team member for 5 years for 'Burger King' which is another well known food chain of restaurants in our country. Also, I love serving customers and preparing food for them.
This job is suitable for me because I can provide best customer service by preparing food using perfect recipes and greeting them. I understand that providing good customer service is important aspect for any job. Moreover, I have experience in working in a fast paced environment and I have also learned time management skills at my former job. All this qualities will be very suitable for the job of a 'Team Member' or a "Food Service Supervisor' and I assure you that I will not disappoint you if you provide me with this job.
I hope you will find me as a suitable person for the job at your restaurant and I am also enclosing my CV with is letter for your reference. If you need further information you can contact me at my email [redacted email].

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the context of the meeting, specified the roles you are interested in, and provided relevant reasons for your suitability, such as your five years of experience at Burger King and your soft skills. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that you avoid minor inaccuracies in the opening, such as 'in a flight' (should be 'on a flight'). Overall, the task is fully accomplished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the introduction to the specific request and finally to the closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', and 'This job is suitable for me' to link your sentences effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion. However, the structure is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fast-paced environment', 'time management skills', and 'enclosing my CV'. There are some minor word choice errors, such as 'in a flight' instead of 'on a flight' and 'All this qualities' instead of 'All these qualities'. While you successfully convey your message, the vocabulary is functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the score to the 6.5-7.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'You suggested me to contact you' (should be 'You suggested that I contact you' or 'You suggested I contact you') and 'enclosing my CV with is letter' (a typo for 'this'). Additionally, 'All this qualities' contains a subject-verb agreement error. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the majority of your sentences are error-free and the meaning is always clear. You show a good command of formal letter-writing conventions, which helps maintain the professional tone of the correspondence.
