Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the context of the meeting (the flight from Delhi to Toronto), specify the desired role (restaurant manager), and provide relevant reasons for your suitability, such as your five years of experience and interpersonal skills. The tone is appropriate for a professional follow-up letter. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on your specific achievements in your previous role to make your candidacy more compelling, but overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'At the outset,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In addition' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor grammatical errors in referencing, such as 'one of yours restaurants.' Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would further enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas clearly, using terms like 'hospitality sector,' 'interpersonal,' and 'proficient.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'buy environment' (likely meaning 'busy') and 'one of yours restaurants' (should be 'your'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several recurring grammatical slips, such as 'follow up our conversation' (should be 'follow up on'), 'five year experience' (should be 'five years of experience'), and 'I also develop' (should be 'have developed'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over verb tenses and pluralization will help you achieve a higher score.
