Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Smith,
Good evening, how are you? I hope you are fine. I am writing this letter to kindly remind you about to get a job in one of your restaurants which you have own.
Firstly, one week ago, I met you in a plane. It was the journey from Canada to Germany, do you remember that? You was seated beside me and we had a great talk about business you have in Canada.
Furthermore, you told me about you have 5 restaurants in Canada in which you are looking for workers to join. I am looking for a baking or chef job. If you are hiring in such department or in any other restaurant, please let me know.
Therefore, I would be best for this job because I have done 2 year diploma in such program- Culinary of baking and pastry. And I have a good experience in such role. I have even worked in local bakery in my hometown and I was a home baker too.
If you are hiring in such department or if you think I fir for this job in your restaurant. Kindly contact me please.
Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: you reminded the recipient of the meeting, specified your interest in a baking or chef role, and explained your suitability through your diploma and experience. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening is slightly informal. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, covering the requirements of the task effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more clearly in the opening sentence, as 'remind you about to get a job' is slightly awkward and lacks professional precision.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' to guide the reader through your points. However, the use of 'Therefore' to introduce your qualifications is slightly illogical, as it does not follow from the previous paragraph in a cause-effect manner. Additionally, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the logical flow between sentences is more natural rather than relying on simple sequence markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your meaning regarding your professional background and interest. Phrases like 'culinary of baking and pastry' and 'local bakery' are relevant. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'which you have own' (should be 'which you own') and 'in such department' (should be 'in this department'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your use of professional collocations related to the hospitality industry would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'You was seated' (should be 'You were seated'), 'about you have 5 restaurants' (should be 'that you have 5 restaurants'), and 'if you think I fir for this job' (should be 'fit'). While these errors do not prevent communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses. Increasing the number of error-free sentences will be key to moving into the 7.0 band.
