Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully reminded the reader of the meeting on the plane, identified your interest in a chef position, and explained your suitability through your recent cookery studies. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why you are suitable could be more persuasive by highlighting specific skills or experiences gained during your course. The tone is generally appropriate for a professional follow-up, though it occasionally slips into informal phrasing. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but more detail would have strengthened the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Actually' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the meeting context and the job application is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel disjointed due to awkward phrasing. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'organisation', 'relevant', and 'opportunity'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'I am really found of' (should be 'fond of') and 'I am writing to since' (missing a verb). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to professional correspondence and proofreading for small errors that affect the naturalness of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'travelling to the London' (unnecessary article), 'due to my studies are totally relevant' (incorrect clause structure), and 'I sincerely appreciate if you consider' (should be 'would appreciate'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conjunctions to improve the accuracy of your complex sentences.
