Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Rohan,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to remind you that we met on 29 June,2026 on the flight. When we travelled from Canada to India, we sat together. You told me about your business, that you run a chain of food outlets.
At that time, you offered to help me whenever I needed a job in one of your restaurants. I was working as a line cook in a restaurant before going to India. I have 2 years of experience in this field. If I had not gone to India last month, I could have become the supervisor in the same restaurant. But I had to go to attend my brother's marriage. So, now they are offering me the same position as a line cook, but I want to achieve my goals in my life.
While thinking about a better opportunity, I remembered you. I decided to ask you to give me a chance in your restaurant as a supervisor because I am pursuing a Master of Management, which will be beneficial for my future and provide me knowledge about the HR department, management, and data analysis. I am sure my dedication, determination, and knowledge of business will bring profit to you.
Yours faithfully,
Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the time and place of the meeting, specify your interest in a supervisor role, and provide a logical justification for your suitability by highlighting your previous experience and current management studies. The tone is appropriate for a professional yet personal follow-up letter. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, showing a clear purpose throughout the response. You have effectively communicated your background and your motivation for reaching out to the businessman, which fully satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression of ideas from the initial reminder of the meeting to the specific request for employment. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the introduction, the background information, and the final request. You use cohesive devices such as 'At that time', 'While thinking about', and 'So, now' to link your sentences and ideas. The flow is natural and easy to follow. While some transitions are quite simple, they are used accurately and contribute to the overall coherence of the letter, making the message easy to understand.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'chain of food outlets', 'better opportunity', and 'dedication and determination' are used correctly. There is an attempt to use more specific terminology related to your studies, such as 'data analysis' and 'HR department'. While the vocabulary is generally functional and accurate, it lacks the variety and sophistication of 'less common' items that would push the score into the higher bands. However, the word choice is precise enough to convey your meaning clearly without any errors that impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional sentence 'If I had not gone to India last month, I could have become the supervisor'. While there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'achieve my goals in my life' (which could be more naturally phrased as 'achieve my career goals') and the slightly awkward 'provide me knowledge', these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound, showing a good level of control over basic and intermediate structures.
