Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: reminding the businessman of the meeting, stating your interest in a job, and explaining your suitability. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention your culinary background and experience at the Taj Hotel, the tone is occasionally informal and repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of why you are suitable is more persuasive and professionally articulated, rather than simply stating that the job is 'crucial' for you. The letter structure is clear, but the content could be expanded with more professional detail regarding your specific skills.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you start three consecutive sentences with 'So' in the second paragraph, which disrupts the flow. Additionally, the transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more smoothly. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of the letter feels a bit disjointed due to the frequent use of short, simple sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'good' or 'many' and struggle with spelling and word choice, such as 'chainies' instead of 'Chinese' and 'sit' instead of 'seat'. There are also issues with collocations, such as 'I had given you all the information about my self' and 'I look forward to here you'. To improve, focus on learning professional collocations related to job applications and ensure you proofread for basic spelling errors, which currently detract from the professional tone of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently struggle with verb tenses, such as 'we meet' instead of 'we met' and 'I had been working... 2 year' instead of 'for two years'. There are also errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'on Qatar flight' and 'at Dubai'. While your meaning is generally clear, these frequent grammatical errors require the reader to work harder to understand your message. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of past tenses for narrative descriptions.
