Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development is insufficient. You mention the meeting, the job, and your suitability, but the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum. This lack of length prevents you from fully developing your ideas, such as explaining your suitability in detail. To improve, you should expand on your professional background and why you are a good fit for the restaurant industry. Because the response is 33 words short of the requirement, the score is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter has a basic structure with a salutation and a closing. However, the paragraphing is inconsistent, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. For example, the transition between the meeting details and the job request is abrupt. You use some cohesive devices like 'First and foremost', but the overall progression is hindered by the brevity of the text. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear focus and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'carer' instead of 'career', 'nhance' instead of 'enhance', and 'an pleasure' instead of 'a pleasure'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone required for a business letter. To achieve a higher score, you need to use more precise vocabulary related to professional settings and ensure your spelling is accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with articles ('in one of your restaurant'), prepositions ('In regarding the position'), and sentence structure ('which was not only a memorable event but also a motivational carer route'). The sentence fragments and punctuation errors, such as the incorrect closing 'Your faithfully', indicate a lack of control over complex structures. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction to improve clarity and accuracy.
