Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully reminded the recipient of the meeting, identified the desired role, and explained your suitability. However, the tone is inconsistent; while you use 'Dear Sir', the language throughout is quite informal (e.g., 'I hope you're well', 'To be honest'). For a formal business letter, a more professional tone is expected. Additionally, the development of your suitability is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on general passion rather than specific professional achievements. To reach a higher band, ensure the tone remains formal throughout and provide more concrete examples of your professional accomplishments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'this.' at the end of the second paragraph is a sentence fragment that disrupts the flow. Additionally, the use of 'Furthermore' and 'Well' is slightly awkward in this context. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help the text flow more naturally and improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'impressed', 'passionate', and 'opportunity'. However, there are several spelling errors ('colambia' for Colombia, 'salsify' for satisfy, 'failthfully' for faithfully) and word choice issues ('plane journey of us', 'offres' for offered). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common words and using more precise collocations, such as 'gained experience' rather than 'gained much knowledge of how to impress'. Expanding your range of professional vocabulary would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I've got the job'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'we met in the plane...'). Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, such as 'I set next to your sear' (should be 'sat' and 'seat'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
